I offer remote psychotherapy for children and adults, and clinical supervision for professionals, using an online video medium such as Zoom, FaceTime, Whatsapp, Skype and others. My approach is integrative, blending different ways of thinking about the psyche and a range of ways of working with the inner world, including creative techniques.
A word about remote working…
Therapy has traditionally been carried out face to face in a neutral space where the client can come and go with the boundary of place and time cleanly delineated. In this time of smart phone assisted living, this traditional model is now expanding to include remote sessions where only faces meet on a video screen. For some this takes away the power and safety of being with the therapist in person and attending that separate physical place. However, for others it enhances the safety by locating the therapeutic encounter somewhere in the home, taking away the transitions to and from the therapy clinic, and enabling a deeper engagement with their material. Of course it means the therapeutic relationship needs to be tended to differently, and some non verbal methods are lost from the process. Yet for those clients whose schedule is very busy, or who live somewhere secluded, or even who travel a lot, an online service offers the possibility to access therapy at all.
Seeing if remote working is for you…
If you would like to explore the idea of working remotely, please contact me for an initial consultation free of charge. It is not suitable for everyone but together we can think about the needs and circumstances of you/your child and make a decision. A rough guideline is that children under the age of 9 may not take to remote work although this varies according to the child. I am able to work with adults and children individually, or adult couples and parent/children dyads together.
